This Single-Board-Computer (SBC) is designed around Freescale Semiconductor’s (Motorola) MC9S08GB60 micro-controller. This is a very powerful and feature-rich member of the HCS08 family (see MC9S08GB60 data book, MC9S08GB60/D rev. 2.2, 09/2004).

This SBC is designed to be an ideal software development platform for the 9S08GB/GT family. A BDM connector is provided, which is compatible with most BDM-type programming development tools (including P&E Micro’s BDM MultililnkS08).

Many excellent software vendors provide IDEs for this family, allowing development in C, C++ and/or assembly. Then the compiled software can be down-loaded to the SBC via the BDM port and debugged with all the traditional features such as single-step, trace, break-points and such.

Additionally, this SBC can be used as-is in many end-user applications. All of the micro-controller’s port pins are wired out to individual 16-pin IDC headers (8 port signals on the odd pins, ground on all even pins). Also, ports C & F may be optionally equipped with high-current output buffers (350mA max) or noise-immune inputs that will withstand +/- 30VDC input swings (individually selectable for each port pin).

Here is a look at the major features of the MC9S08GB CPU (refer to the data book for more details):

· 40MHz maximum clock rate
· 60K-bytes Flash program memory, 4K-bytes static RAM
· 56 I/O lines with many secondary functions
· 8-channel 10-bit Analog to Digital Converter (shares port B)
· Comprehensive clock-generator circuits
· 2 serial comm. ports
· an IIC port
· 8-channel timer module with Input Capture and Output Compare


Then the SBC has these features:

· All I/O ports wired out to individual IDC headers
· Ports C & F may optionally have high-current buffers and/or noise resistant input circuits with enclosed type terminal blocks.
· Standard BDM connector
· Serial port 1 implemented RS-232 port with DTE/DCE selection and standard 9-pin connector.
· On-board 10.0MHz oscillator
· On-board 3.3VDC power supply regulator (requires input of 6 to 12VDC un-regulated)
· 4 X 5.5 inches board size
